Music notes
Approximately 2,000 people braved the wind Friday night, May 14, to attend the first concert of Harrah’s Virg summer concert series at the Plaza. Cracker got things rolling with a set of familiar alternative radio favorites. The stage was lit with multicolored lights, and a fog machine cranked out voluminous clouds that were quickly dispersed by the wind. The crowd didn’t seem to mind the wind at all as they sang along with the band. The Virg will have a concert on the Plaza every Friday night through August. On May 21, Rick Derringer of “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo” fame plays. Other upcoming acts this summer include Berlin, Blue Oyster Cult, Georgia Satellites, John Waite and Survivor (Remember “Eye of the Tiger”?). All shows start at 8 p.m.
At the New Oasis, 13 bands energized the stage over the course of four nights.
