Hardcore punk-rock legend
Henry Rollins (formerly of
Black Flag) brought his spoken-word tour to the Reno Hilton April 15. Rollins talked nonstop for more than two hours on topics ranging from politics (he beat the crap out of George W. Bush) to entertaining the troops overseas to watching Monday night football at
William Shatner’s house. One of my favorite topics Rollins touched on was getting free food. He said at many of the Hollywood events he attends, no one wants to be caught eating, meaning more food for him. Rollins told a hilariously surreal story about a recording session with Shatner and guitarist
Adrian Belew (ex-
Zappa, ex-
Bowie,
King Crimson). He had Shatner’s vocal inflections down perfect. Imagine, if you can, Rollins, Shatner and manic guitar-bending Belew in the same studio working on a call-and-response song called “I Can’t Get Behind That?” At the end of the show, Rollins made a plea to the audience to get out and vote, no matter what your political affiliation.
