Music notes

Last Saturday at the Reno Jazz Club, Bay Area girl-led band Ramona the Pest rocked the stage with its clean, silky melodies spiked with a dose of flirtatious punk. The indie band, who from time to time does shows in Reno with local band The Spark, has plans to tour Iraq, of all places, through a program in which “unemployed independent recording artists are sent to disadvantaged nations” to bring goodwill. Check out www.ramonathepest.com to hear music or to order CDs. Another Bay Area girl-led band, Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, will fill the Fallon Convention Center Oct. 18 with its much-acclaimed tunes of the sexy, bluesy swing ilk. Tickets are $15 and available in Reno at Soundwaves CDs and in Fallon at Jeff’s Copy Express and Postage Plus. Call (775) 423-1440.
