Get out of the garage. Battle Fest 2003 is putting out a call to local bands with a majority of members under 21 (no member can be over 25—I’m sure they scrutinize IDs, guys, so no cheating). The Battle Fest is sponsored by Join Together Northern Nevada, an anti-substance abuse organization, in conjunction with other local non-profit agencies. Bands must submit a demo CD or videotape as well as a typewritten copy of original songs to be played at the event. There’s a $25 entrance fee, but if the judges decide you suck (er … you’re not selected for the Battle), your money is refunded. Deadline is Oct. 28. Pick up applications at participating 7-Eleven stores, all Washoe County Public Library branches or the front office of local middle and high schools. Call 850-8011 or e-mail battlefest2003@aol.com.
