Mulholland Drive
This movie, written and directed by the brilliant David Lynch, is a film you could watch repeatedly, and it could have a different impact on you with each viewing. When a young wannabe actress (Naomi Watts) hooks up with an amnesiac woman (Laura Ellen Harring) strange things happen, and you may not get it the first time you watch it. Don’t give up on this one, because it has some massive and horrifying secrets to unfold. Watts was criminally passed over for an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a woman deluded by guilt, resulting in a bipolar portrayal that is nothing short of remarkable. Lynch made this into a movie after ABC rejected it as a TV pilot, and we should all be thankful for that network’s prudish practices. The DVD contains no extras of note, but Lynch does provide a list of helpful hints for understanding the film. This is a classic.
