Moore music

Now that the holidays are over, our local nightlife is getting back into high gear. Singer-songwriter Ian Moore is one of several touring acts playing in the area this week. Moore has chosen Reno as the site for the release party of his new DVD, Live at the Cactus. The DVD features acoustic performances of new and previously released songs. Praised by critics for his ethereal vocals and deft musicianship, the Austin, Texas, native started his career as a teen playing lead guitar for Joe Ely. He released his 1993 self-titled debut on Capricorn Records, which was followed by a handful of albums over the years including Action Company, Ian Moore’s Got the Green Grass and Modern Day Folklore. Moore’s working on a companion CD, Luminaria, which will feature the songs performed on the DVD. He will be mixing and recording the CD as he tours across the country. “While the content and the songs speak for themselves, we believe it’s the first pop record that ever has been made on the road,” he says. “It’s like recording a Beatles record in various locations, [which] could never happen 10 years ago.” Ian Moore and opening act Chris Dye perform 9 p.m. Jan. 17 at The Garage inside the Reno Hilton, 2500 E. Second St. The show is free. Call 789-2285.—Kelley Lang
