Little Children

Some people living in a suburban city behave badly with some terrible consequences. Director Todd Field has shot a great-looking movie with some excellent performances. Kate Winslet (nominated for an Oscar) plays Sarah, a mother going through marital problems and conducting an affair with Brad (Patrick Wilson). Former child star Jackie Earle Haley (also nominated for an Oscar), who hadn’t acted in 13 years, returns to the screen with a vengeance as a pedophile recently released from prison. His swim in a public pool is one of past year’s scarier scenes. Not getting a nomination, but deserving of one, is Wilson, who continues to be one of the great, underrated actors working today.
