What is RockSport?
It is a full-service, indoor rock-climbing gym.
Why did you decide to create RockSport?
I feared the leadership of someone else. I consider it a community service for my fellow climbers.
What does RockSport provide for the new generation?
RockSport is a safe environment for everyone, and it’s a good place to get the basics. Also, it’s a lot more convenient to climb here than when it is snowing outside.
Do parents ever become apprehensive when they realize their children are hanging in the air?
Yes, a big part of my job is smoothing things over with parents. I give them a tour and make them realize it’s safe.
Why did you choose to get involved with youth?
Why wouldn’t I? They are my future business and the future of the sport. Besides, when I’m too old to climb, they’re going to pull ropes for me.
What do the high school teams get to do?
RockSport offers high school teams a place to climb for a discounted price and a place to hold competitions. We also offer some training and workshops. They can also letter in this sport.
What and when are kids’ climb times?
Kids’ climb times are Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. At those times, I have people here to handle the ropes so the kids can climb all they want.
How do you join?
Just show up. No one gets turned away.
How much is it?
The high school membership is $25 a month and reduced for equipment. A regular student membership is $25 to $35 a month and an adult membership is $40 a month.
Where are you located?
We are located at 1901 Silverada Blvd. in the Sak ‘N’ Save plaza.
What’s your advice to the struggling climbers out there?
Climbing is different for everyone, so one piece of advice can’t be given. Just take care of the sport!
