Liberals are green with hypocrisy

“I drive a hybrid. Tipper and I got a Lexus hybrid. And we have a couple of Priuses in the family with our children. And I encourage people to make environmentally conscious choices because we all have to solve this climate crisis.”
—Al Gore

The newest fad of the liberal left in the United States is being “green” and saving the world—one hybrid at a time. This idea is amusing if nothing else. Global warming is an uncertain concept, a concept at which the left consistently throws money.

NASA has said that our Earth is warming up, but the agency has also pointed out that the southern polar ice cap on Mars is shrinking and has been for a while now. Jupiter is also facing drastic changes. It is doubtful that Martians are driving gas guzzling SUVs and using aerosol hairspray on Mars. There must be another common factor among these planets.

So what do these planets all have in common? They reside in the same solar system. That would point to a problem that is not of this world, but an external problem. Quite possibly, this is caused by something solar.

This leads us back to the problem of the liberal left: They buy hybrid cars and wear shirts that exhibit some sort of statement showing the owners are “green.” But is this helping? What are these products doing for Mother Earth?

The United States’ main importer is China. Most likely, the “green” shirts liberals so proudly display were made in China. Factories in China tend to promote child labor, sweat shops and miniscule wages. So the liberal left wear shirts stating their stance on “saving” the environment, but by buying these shirts they support China’s economy. One would think liberals would be against the Chinese economy for moral reasons, but apparently this isn’t a problem. The ironic part is that these shirts do nothing to save the environment.

Hybrid cars are another story. A Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan starts around $22,600, where a Civic Sedan starts at $15,010. The hybrid gets 45 miles per gallon on the highway; the sedan gets 34 miles per gallon. The incentive to buy a hybrid just isn’t there. The savingis nonexistent, from an economic point of view. Saving fossil fuel with a hybrid seems to be a non-issue, this being because its gas mileage isn’t that much better than many regular cars.

This is more like an inside joke than an attempt to save the environment.

So what is the liberal left trying to do? They throw money at a problem they don’t have all the facts on, buy products that are inefficient at solving said problem, and then promote the spending of our tax dollars to help this problem they don’t understand.

Inefficiency seems to be the trend here. Instead of looking at what is directly in front of them (i.e. the possibility of a solar issue), they blindly talk about a problem and choose to completely miss what is directly in front of them. Unfortunately, that is the way with the left. When in doubt, buy a shirt and throw our tax dollars at whatever given issue is popular at the moment. And I don’t know about you, but I could use a degree or two added to our temperature every century. In a few hundred years, Reno might actually have a pleasant winter.

Finally, I would like to send my thanks out to ex-future President Gore. Thank you—not for saving our environment, but for boosting the economy with your excessive spending on hybrid Japanese cars.
