LDS college planned

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are planning to start a college in Nevada. The intention is to promote LDS values.

The campus, planned at Logandale, will offer four-year degrees in the humanities, social sciences, math and fine arts.

A spokesperson seemed to suggest that the planned college will be a way for the church to shield young Mormons from the outside world.

“We are aware of a growing number of cases where LDS kids go to other colleges and end up becoming inactive or leaving the church or becoming less active and getting into difficulty with morality and with drugs,” director Rex Jensen told the Salt Lake Tribune.

The new institution will be named Desert Valley College.
