Land of pharaohs

World famous Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass trades the hot sands of the Giza plateau for the cool waters of Lake Tahoe when he visits Incline Village next week. Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, has directed many excavations of ancient Egyptian sites and led the effort to reconstruct the face of King Tutankhamun. Teams from Egypt, France and the United States worked independently to reconstruct the face of the famous “boy king” using modern forensic techniques. The results recently aired on a TV special on National Geographic Channel. Dr. Hawass is on a tour of the United States with the traveling exhibit, Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. He will show slides of his recent discoveries Sept. 7 at Sierra Nevada College, 999 Tahoe Blvd., Incline Village. The free event begins at 6 p.m. Call 831-7799 x4071.
