Best little film society

If you’re wondering what happened to the Great Basin Film Society, don’t worry—it still exists. It merged with a different company and has a new name, Artemisia Moviehouse. For a decade it has been bringing independent (Roadside Prophets, In the Course of Human Events), animated (A Cat in Paris), foreign (Il Posto, Queen of Hearts), Nevada (5 Against the House, Charlie Chan in Reno), classic (Shane, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), documentary (Sir! No Sir!, Living Without Money) and even the rare softcore (Beyond the Valley of the Dolls) movies to Reno. There aren’t enough of the classics shown, as far as we’re concerned, but among those we’ve seen in Great Basin screenings have been Randolph Scott, Marilyn Monroe, Orson Welles, James Stewart, Brigitte Bardot, William Holden, Donald Sutherland and Lena Horne. Find the society at www.ArtemisiaMovies.org.
