Journalism dean named

The University of Nevada, Reno journalism school, currently housed in the business college while its own digs undergo renovation, has a new dean from the broadcasting field.

Alan Stavitsky, coauthor of A History of Public Broadcasting, will join the school in April. He is a former television and radio news anchor and news director. He will come to Nevada from Oregon, where he is a journalism professor.

Stavitsky was also one of three finalists for the Butler University communication college deanship in Indianapolis but dropped out on Oct. 28 “after receiving an offer from a different university,” according to the Butler Collegian. His taking his name out of the running caused a certain amount of consternation in the search committee.
