Jake Highton retires

An abashed Jake Highton, left, and his colleague Bob Felten listened at a University of Nevada, Reno, Student Senate meeting as a resolution praising Highton was read. Highton is retiring as a journalism professor. The resolution noted that “jaked” has become a verb in the school of journalism, a reference to particularly rigorous and demanding instruction. Highton, a former journalist with the Detroit News and Baltimore Sun, told the senators, “Thank you for your kind words here because I won’t be able to hear them when I’m dead.”
