Imagine gliding across the crystalline surface of the Rink on the River as the sun retreats beyond the Sierra. The night chill comes on. You wrap your scarf a bit tighter and slide across the ice. The lights of downtown Reno reflect in the gentle ripples of the Truckee River. Ahhh. Then a big tourist in a parka slams into you, and you fall on your rear end. Ouch. The Rink on the River opens Nov. 23. City of Reno spokeswoman Lisa Mann says she’s excited about the new location: "It’s right by the river and has great ambiance." The rink is on the unMapes lot, 10 N. Virginia St. The cost to skate is $5 for adults and $3 for kids and seniors. Skate rental costs $2. The Rink on the River is also available for private parties and hockey games, and business hours vary. For details, call 334-2266.
