Hancock

Rated 4.0

Will Smith plays the title character against type, never cracking a smile. He’s an alcoholic superhero who doesn’t know who he is, specializing in terrorizing criminals rather than simply bringing them to justice. When he saves the life of a public relations specialist (Jason Bateman), the PR man tries to return the favor by getting people to love Hancock. This process involves Hancock willingly going to jail and wearing an X-Men-type suit. The film has some hilarious moments; Smith and Bateman make for a good screen duo. Charlize Theron is also good as Bateman’s worried wife. The film is definitely something different for a summer blockbuster, and it’s just another example of how strong a movie star Smith really is. It contains a very funny sight gag.
