Green Party holds vigil

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” That quote by Theodore Roosevelt closes a recent e-mailed invitation to a Green Party vigil on the front steps of the Thompson Federal Building at 7 p.m. Sept. 11.

Local spokesman for the Martin Luther King Commission Onie Cooper will be among the speakers at the event. Bring a flashlight or candle.

After the vigil, the Greens will head to the Pub ’n’ Sub, near the UNR campus, for a Green Party meeting. Topics on the agenda include the party’s status in northern Nevada, the USA Patriot Act and a proposed Green Party alliance with Democrats in order to oust President Bush in 2004. The public is welcome to attend both events.
