Great Basin Mine Watch gets a new name and extended mission

Great Basin Mine Watch, which has been working to protect the environment against negative mining impacts since 1994, has a new name to reflect a broader mission. Announced in its current newsletter, the group is now called Great Basin Resource Watch. While they’re continuing to focus on mining issues, they’re also looking at mercury from power plants, incinerators and cement kilns; air and water pollution, and “irresponsible energy development,” which includes coal burning power plants, inappropriate transmission line placement and the oil and gas industry. Accompanying the new name is a new email and website address: info@gbrw.org and www.gbrw.org.
