Gov. Gibbons comes alive

Gov. Jim Gibbons, who has spent most of the 2009 Nevada Legislature in the bleachers, went into a flurry of activity last week designed to affect the tax and budget produced by the lawmakers.

The governor held a news conference in his Carson City office on April 30, followed by another news conference at a boat company in Henderson the next day. Both events featured denunciations of legislators who have been building a state budget without the governor’s participation.

Gibbons then announced he would hold a series of community meetings in Minden, Stateline and Incline this week, in what he called “an effort to bring government closer to the people of Nevada.”

No immediate explanation was given by Gibbons’ staff for the governor’s sudden interest in government.
