Google News

In the past, news junkies have had to surf a multitude of news sites on the Internet. I always figured a comprehensive site would come down the pipe, but instead, most sites linked to news outlets, as opposed to individual stories. The problem is that many news purveyors are geo-centric, only interested in local and regional news, so newsies end up going from American newspaper site to Saudi newspaper site to British newspaper site. Google News has made all that a thing of the past, enabling readers to see how different news organizations report the same story. The folks at Google have created an algorithm that posts the most popular news stories from around the globe. It’s similar to Google’s site-ranking formula that places the most popular Web sites at the top of the search results list. Google News, still in beta testing, shows what a true combination of print journalism and the Internet will look like.
