Giving time

Ring a bell. Hold a kettle. Serve a dinner. Give a toy. A few hours of your time can mean a joyful Christmas for the down-and-out. The Salvation Army seeks volunteers to ring bells for red kettle donations Nov. 23-Dec. 24; to help with Christmas assistance applications Nov. 25-27 and Dec. 2-14; to staff Angel Tree displays at Toys R Us and at Park Lane Mall; to assist with food and toy distribution Dec. 19-21; to assist with its Adopt-A-Family program Dec. 20-21; and to help with Christmas dinner Dec. 25. Those who don’t have the time to volunteer can drop non-perishable food items into the food collection barrels located around town, select a name tag from an Angel Tree and buy a gift for that child, or attend a Salvation Army fund-raiser at the Peppermill Hotel Casino Nov. 22. The fund-raiser begins at 6:30 p.m. with live entertainment and a silent auction. For more information, call 688-4555.
