Ghostly fun

Every Halloween, parents frantically search Northern Nevada for a safe place to take their children. That search can end at Virginia City’s Ghost Town. On Oct. 31, Virginia City will be draped in decorations to celebrate Halloween in a family-friendly way, said Denise Hughes-Hatley, an administrative assistant for Virginia City’s convention and tourism. "It’s our way to offer an alternative to other events around Reno and Sparks that often scare younger children," she said. "The Ghost Town is safe, not gory, and is just old-fashioned fun." Virginia City’s Ghost Town will begin with safe trick-or-treating at 5 p.m. and will include rides on the Famous Ghost Train, candlelight tours of the Chollar Mine and stalking the haunted hallways of the 4th Ward School.
