Let it be recorded that in the week of George Carlin’s death, city staff members used the term “temporary emergency overflow area” for the tent city in downtown Reno. (RN&R arts editor Brad Bynum thinks it may be written in trochaic heptameter.)
Carlin was a critic of the way “pain is completely buried under jargon,” making it easier to obscure misery and more difficult to achieve solutions.
The homeless shelter is being called the Community Assistance Center.
