Two commemorative displays in Reno have quietly been removed, we discovered recently.
A display in the Church Fine Arts Building at the University of Nevada, Reno on the life and accomplishments of Dr. James Church, for whom the building is named and who is entombed in the building with his wife, is no longer in place. It used to be at the central intersection of north/south and east/west corridors on the main floor. Some longtime campus figures wonder where the original paraphernalia relating to both Church’s art career and his scientific snow surveys ended up.
And a Sammy Davis, Jr. exhibit that was on the ground floor of Harrah’s on the side facing Virginia Street has similarly disappeared. But it is not gone. Harrah’s publicist Laura Brownlie said, “The Sammy Davis display was moved to the second floor of our West Tower by the elevators.”
