Fast train coming
Welcome to this week’s Reno News & Review.
Oh. My. God. It’s “Best-of” week. And I’m going crazy.
Sometimes I do things when planning projects that I know I’ll live to regret. I’ll make a garden four times bigger than I can populate in one year because I know that, next year, I’m going to want to continue adding to it. If I’m helping to make a science project about aerodynamics, I’m more likely to use a floor fan than a pinwheel.
I think we may have bitten off more than we can chew with this year’s Best Of.
The bottom line is I know that if I set high expectations for myself, I’ll always get better results than if I set my sights on easily attainable goals. I know, deep down, that I am not going to fail myself. Some people call that a healthy confidence. Stupid people call it my arrogance.
So, here it is, down to the wire. The Biggest Little Best of Northern Nevada will publish next week, and my staff and I are busting ass to get these things counted, facts checked, photos assigned. Yeeeeaaaah!
But still, I didn’t quite get over the bar I set for myself. We only added new categories once since the ballot went up, so I apologize about that. It’s a good, fun idea, and we’re going to try it again next year, but in the meantime, we’ve got a whole bunch of new categories to add to next year’s Best Of ballot.
As if this thing weren’t big enough already—as I write this, this year’s ballot results are so different, so big, I don’t even know if we’ll be able to fit second and third place results in next week’s paper. This is so exciting.
This being said, and as long as I’m on the topic, I hope if you’re a winner, you’ll attend our Best of Northern Nevada Awards Party on Friday, Oct. 24. It’s a good opportunity to meet the staff and get a drink on with some of the “best” people in our community.
