Faire thee well
Do you hang on every word of Shakespeare? Do you wear lots of velvet and brocade—even when it’s 90 degrees outside? Do you own an arsenal of 16th century weaponry? Then you’ll probably be the first in line at this weekend’s Heart of the Forest Renaissance Faire at South Lake Tahoe. As You Like It Productions of Southern California recreates the sights and sounds of an Elizabethan country faire at Camp Richardson Resort. There will be costumed actors, jousting matches, arts and crafts, English food and drink and an appearance by the royal court. Those who are looking for something more exotic will find Middle Eastern dancers and foods from across the Mediterranean and countries along the ancient Silk Road. Visitors are encouraged to get into the spirit of the event by dressing up in Renaissance attire. Each day of the event offers a different theme including Feast of Fools on opening night on which visitors can wear their favorite foolish hat. The fair opens 10 a.m. June 5 and continues 10 a.m. June 6, 12-13 at Camp Richardson Resort, off Highway 89, two miles north of the Highway 50 intersection in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Tickets range from $6 to $40. Call (415) 897-4555 or visit www forestfaire.com.—Kelley Lang
