Event pick of the week

All in the familySeptember is just around the corner, and soon those warm summer nights will start to feel a bit nippy. But there are at least a couple more weekends to bask in summer’s glory. Use this time to dip in your favorite swimming hole, barbecue on the patio or kick back at an outdoor concert, like the one going on this weekend in Carson City. The Capital City Music Series says goodbye to its summer concert season with a show by the Neville Brothers. The New Orleans group—featuring Aaron, Art, Charles and Cyril Neville—combines elements of R&B, jazz, reggae, rock and Zydeco, a mix that has resulted in them selling millions of records around the world including their Grammy-winning 1988 album Yellow Moon and 1990’s Brother’s Keeper. Of the four brothers, Aaron is best known for his solo work featuring his distinctive quavering voice. He scored hits in the 1960s with “Only You” and “Tell It Like It Is” as well as in the 1990s with “Everybody Plays the Fool.” The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Pavilion at Mills Park, a few blocks east of Highway 395 and Highway 50 in Carson City. Tickets are $18-$30. Call 887-3688 or visit www.carsoncitymusic.com.
