Drag Me to Hell

Rated 3.0

While this film is being touted as a return to Evil Dead form for director Sam Raimi, it isn’t nearly that good. Still, Raimi knows how to bring funny scares, and he gets quite a few in this tale of cursed loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman). When Christine turns down an old woman for a loan, effectively casting her into the streets, the old woman doesn’t take the injustice sitting down. She inflicts her with a curse that will result in all modes of PG-13 gore afflicting her. She gets splashed with multiple body fluids, has arms pushed down her throat, and gets old scary lady drool all over her. It’s gross fun, with very little plot and a slight sense of repetition. Hopefully, this is just Raimi’s warm-up for the next Evil Dead film. It’s not high art, but it’s fun to see Raimi goofing around again.
