Disclosure thwarted
The Nevada Board of Health last week decided not to require hospitals to disclose to the public informtion on hospital-acquired infection cases. The board adopted a regulation requiring hospitals to report such cases to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but that information is not public.
In June and July the Las Vegas Sun reported 2,010 case of hospital-acquired infections involving two bugs at Las Vegas hospitals, more than a tenth of them involving deaths, though linkage was not established.
