Dave Matthews Band

Live in Chicago at the United Center 12.19.98

With the recent release Everyday, many long-time fans felt the original sound of the Dave Matthews Band was lost. Enter Live in Chicago at the United Center 12.19.98. Songs such as "Jimi Thing" and "Lie in Our Graves" recall the extended jams the band’s performances are known for, and fans should appreciate their skill. There are standards littered through the set list, but there are also several surprises on this album. Daniel Lanois’ "The Maker" and a soulful rendition of "Christmas Song" make this CD well worth the listen. Guest guitarist Tim Reynolds lends his unique sound to the fusion of the band, and other guests include Victor Wooten, Maceo Parker and Mitch Rutman. Despite the absence of crowd favorites, such as "Ants Marching," this two-CD set exemplifies the Dave Matthews Band—their spirited live performances give the band its true definition.
