Crime and Hot August Nights
According to Reno Police Department records, crime does tick up a bit for Hot August Nights. The weeks before and after Hot August Nights, over the previous seven years, have averaged 268 misdemeanor and 57 felony citations. Weeks involving Hot August nights averaged 367 misdemeanors and 65 felonies. That’s a bump of about 12 percent for felonies and 27 percent for misdemeanors. Granted, the huge crowds Hot August Nights brings in suggests those crimes are spread out over more folks, but the Truckee Meadows don’t expand with the crowds.
Love it or hate it, Hot August Nights is here. Some would claim it’s an environmental disaster, but the truth of the matter is the event is not as bad as you thought.
