Consumer habits

The Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas on Jan. 10-13 showcased a variety of innovative green ideas, from new uses for smartphones to home conservation products. Gadget company 2nd Solutions shared its plan to reduce e-waste in landfills by offering restored and refurbished phones and reselling them back to communities. Sony, expected to make a major new release, focused instead on improving the energy consumption of existing products and the idea of “do more with less.” Monster Power partnered with personal energy tracking group People Power to create an application for iPhone and Android that allows users to control home electricity use remotely. The app also features quizzes to help users learn more about conserving energy. If you’re concerned about the amount of energy used by smartphones, solar power battery packs were also on display, and even compostable iPhone cases that decompose into dirt within months.
