Coming down

The Silver Club building in Sparks, vacant for three years, is being demolished. Since the end of the recession, the Sparks downtown has seen the rise of several apartment buildings, creating forbidding canyons and removing open space, which cramps special events. This will remove a darkened structure, but the city hopes it will then be “redeveloped.” The Silver Club closed in 2009, then briefly reopened as Bourbon Square in 2015.
