Classical music to my ears

Barry Jekowski

Barry Jekowski

“This is a brilliant collaboration of some of our finest musicians,” says Barry Jekowsky, Reno Philharmonic musical director and conductor, of the upcoming concert. The Reno Philharmonic will open the new year with its eclectic musical ensemble, 4 p.m. Jan. 12 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14. Many styles of music, from Baroque to Contemporary, will be performed. Jekowsky says that the cherry on top of the orchestral cake is the performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. “This piece will allow the audience to discover the depth, range and dynamics of their talent,” he says. The Philharmonic’s guest artist is cellist Yehuda Hanani. Hanani is a professor of cello and presents master classes internationally in conjunction with his concert tours. The concert will be at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St. Tickets are $22. Call 323-6393 or visit www.renophilharmonic.com.
