Citizen Kane

Warner Home Video

Is Citizen Kane the greatest film ever made? Hell, no … I’d rather watch Goodfellas. Still, the movie is a great one, as Orson Welles chose to employ camera tricks and lighting games like no one before him. For me, the film represents an interesting conflict of old school tightness that sometimes feels phony and a remarkable looseness that was ingeniously original and creative. Yes, it stands the test of time, and yes, it is a classic. I just think it’s a stretch to call it the all-time best. I actually prefer It’s a Wonderful Life, Jaws, Star Wars and Barton Fink, so I guess that makes me a snot-nosed kid. The DVD comes with two discs, including an Oscar-nominated documentary on the making of the film.
