While the original film starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu was enjoyable junk, this one is an irritating mess. Director McG has instructed the actresses to smile and giggle a lot, and it doesn’t work; they are just plain annoying. The plot involves some nonsense about retrieving several special rings, the only saving grace being a funny subplot involving Barrymore’s vengeful ex-boyfriend (Justin Theroux), in which a decent homage to Cape Fear is underplayed. Hopefully, there will be no further installments of this giggle-filled and embarrassing movie. The premise has been played out after only two films.
