Centennial

Four great- and great great-nieces of former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson were in Reno last week as guests of honor at events marking the centennial of the “great white hope” prizefight in Reno. Here they were present for a ceremonial ringing of the original bell at the site of the fight. Also on hand for various events were relatives of Johnson’s opponent Jim Jeffries and referee Tex Rickard.
