Cancel those campaign buttons
Conservative columnist John Fund opines that U.S. Sen. Harry Reid will not run for reelection this year.
Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Fund said “Democrats are making contingency plans in case Mr. Reid leaves office, possibly recruiting one of the state’s two Democratic congresswomen to replace him. There’s even talk of coaxing former Democratic senator and Nevada governor Richard Bryan out of retirement to run.”
No one in Nevada could be found who knew of any of this, least of all Bryan, who laughed and said, “Nobody’s asked and frankly, I am not a candidate. I could give you a Sherman statement: If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.”
Bryan said he first heard of his alleged candidacy when a friend in New York spotted the Journal item and called to contribute to his putative campaign.
Bryan said he does not believe Reid will retire for any reason short of something like a catastrophic illness. And he believes Reid will be reelected.
