Bruce Almighty

This one starts as a very good Jim Carrey vehicle, but it almost loses it in the end. When a fed-up field news reporter Bruce (Carrey) loses out on a promotion, he berates God (Morgan Freeman). In need of a vacation, God grants Bruce all of his powers and leaves him be for awhile. This leads to some funny scenarios, including the parting of tomato soup as if it were the Red Sea and doggie toilet training. Things get awfully sappy in the last reel as the film goes from a nasty take on divine intervention to a predictable look at selflessness. Still, Carrey gets some great laughs and even gets the chance to meld his face into Clint Eastwood. The film also stars Jennifer Aniston as Bruce’s devoted girlfriend.
