Brother Bear

Rated 1.0 Disney has made some threats that this traditionally animated film will be the last their studio will produce, at least for the time being. Considering that the movie stinks, it’s a shame they couldn’t put such an engaging format to bed in nicer fashion. A strange, new-age take on Native American life 10,000 years ago, it tells the story of a belligerent young man who hates bears. After causing the death of one, his ancestors transform him into a bear to show him what it’s like, at the same time blasting his ears with bad Phil Collins music to keep him in line. The story is silly, the animation unimpressive and the moral confused. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas reprise their Bob and Doug McKenzie shtick as talking moose, and they’re good for a couple of chuckles. Otherwise, stay away.
