Astro Boy

Rated 2.0

In this underwhelming animated movie, a little kid (voice of Freddie Highmore, sans his British accent) gets killed by a rampaging robot and is resurrected as a super robot boy with the boy’s memory. He must deal with the mixed feelings of his scientist dad (Nicolas Cage) and a group of plucky human children led by an especially plucky girl (Kristen Bell) who doesn’t like robots. The whole premise is a little boring, and it’s not helped by the fact that the animation here is lackluster. The plot involves some robot fights and some political garbage surrounding a bland character voiced by Donald Sutherland. They got Sutherland’s big teeth right, but that’s about all they did correctly with this venture. It’s a box office bomb, so there will probably be no more.
