Another outlet for indie films

Looking for the artsy flare and independent touch you think Hollywood movies have lost? Non-profit film society CinemaReno will soon show new and unreleased independent films and videos, as well as classic and art films, at the Reno Hilton. Organizer Steve Davis said the group is providing an outlet for films that cannot otherwise be seen here. “We plan to show an eclectic mix of films that are seen in film festivals,” Davis said. “At most of our screenings, we will have the filmmaker on hand so the audience can ask them questions. This makes the movie-going experience more interesting.” The first screening, to be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 26, will feature 40 (pictured), an independent comedy by Davis, and a short film called The Last Laugh by John McCalmont. Admission is $5, and all proceeds benefit the organization. For more information, call Davis at 848-5551 or visit
