Anger and hope

They’re aggressive, but hopeful. They’re loud, but melodic. They’re angry, but they want to change America—politically and musically—for the better. Pennyswise, joined by The Deviates and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, will rock the Livestock Events Center at 7 p.m. Jan. 4. Using punk as a vehicle for political critique, Pennywise (pictured) says that for them, punk is about "righteous anger and the naïve belief that in some small way, together we can change the world." Right in step with Pennywise’s themes of anger and hope, The Deviates say they have a "pissed off but positive message." Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards is a side project for two members of Rancid. Be prepared for indignation, hope and some loud music. Tickets are $13.50. Call 787-8497.
