An invitation to the ball

You don’t need a fairy godmother to attend the Cinderella Black & White Ball, but some form of fancy dress is required. Nevada Opera’s annual fund-raising gala has a Cinderella theme this year in anticipation of its upcoming production, La Cenerentola. The dress code is modern-day formal, which means suits for the Prince Charmings and evening gowns or cocktail dresses for the Cinderellas in attendance. The gala takes place Feb. 2 at the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. Second St. The event begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The program includes a brief performance of selections from Nevada Opera’s upcoming operas this season, as well as a chance to dance the night away (unless you have a midnight curfew). Tickets for the gala are $75-$150. If that’s seems a little too pricey for what you make on your Cinderella wages, you can save some of your hard-earned pennies and attend a performance of Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Feb. 9 and 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St. Tickets are $35-$85. Call Nevada Opera at 786-4046 or the Pioneer Center at 686-6600.
