All the Roadrunning

Although this album sounds as if it were carefully knit together, it’s a collection of bits and pieces recorded here and there over the past several years. The roads they run are littered with memories, hard times and doubt, what did and didn’t work. Staggerwing planes, Maseratis and red Fender guitars stalk your house and your body. And although they’re waiting for the wrecker in a stranded car, the headlight beams let them see way beyond their wildest dreams and grasp the right now. The singers’ voices mix more than well—what better partner than Emmylou, whose weary but vibrant alto is the key counterpoint element in the mix. In passing the vocals back and forth, they vitally inhabit the material.
