One of the most striking pieces of public art in Northern Nevada—“Nevada” by Joseph Bartscherer—is not as young as it used to be. The edges of the wall panels are becoming discolored. The popular display is in the lobby of the Nevada Library and Arts Building, directly behind the Nevada Capitol. It was commissioned for the then-new building by the Nevada Council on the Arts. The 12 large panels with photos of terrain around the state are supported by additional photos that can be viewed by opening the flat drawers of the white maple cabinets below the wall panels. Bartscherer, a New Yorker, created the piece from 1993 to 1996, according to the Peter Freeman Gallery in New York City. It was unveiled in the archives building on Nevada Day 1996.
