A taste for the arts
Enjoy a night of the arts, magic and food at the fourth annual Appetizers for the Arts. This fundraiser for InnerRhythms Dance Theatre in Truckee, Calif., features culinary creations by area restaurants such as Moody’s Bistro and Coyote Moon and performances by the non-profit dance organization’s students, as well as its hip-hop troupe Rhythmatics. Guest artists Christopher Childers and Dave Womach (pictured) round out the night’s entertainment. Dancer/choreographer Childers has danced onstage with performers such as Madonna, Whitney Houston, Prince and Paula Abdul. He also worked on the film Spiderman as a choreographer and has appeared in several TV shows and films. He was a principal performer with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas for seven years and was cast as the Red Bird character in the company’s Mystère show. Illusionist Dave Womach has been performing magic tricks since he was a child growing up in Spokane, Wash. By age 18, he was displaying his skills to audiences around the world after being invited to perform at the Shanghai International Magic Festival in China. He perfected his skills while touring Canada with professional magicians. Today, Womach regularly performs his magic show on Princess Cruise Lines and has won several awards including the Master of Magic Award at the 2005 International Magic Festival and a first-place award in the 2000 Pacific Coast Association of Magicians Stage Competition. Appetizers for the Arts begins 6 p.m. March 31 at the North Tahoe Conference Center, 8318 N. Lake Blvd., Kings Beach, Calif. Tickets are $55. Call InnerRhythms at (530) 550-8464.
