A little bit of Hollywood here
While our town isn’t as popular as New York City, there have been a fair amount of movies set in Reno, with The Misfits, Kingpin and Sister Act being some of the most well-known. The newest movie to feature the Biggest Little City is Waking Up in Reno, a romantic comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton, Patrick Swayze, Charlize Theron and Natasha Richardson as married couples that travel to Reno for a monster truck rally. (Figures.) You can see the West Coast premiere of the film at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Century Riverside 12. A cocktail party at the Eldorado will precede the film at 6 p.m., and director Jordan Brady will attend. Buy advance tickets for $20 at Sierra Arts, 17 S. Virginia St., or pay $25 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the third annual Reno Film Festival. Call 334-6707 or visit www.renofilmfestival.com.
