A half century ago

In the parking lot of Scooper’s Drive-In on the day of the Sparks Christmas Parade, a Corvette convertible’s license plate was as interesting as the car. The 1961 plate bore a Nevada Centennial panel across the bottom. During the 1964 centennial celebration, car owners re-registering their vehicles were given the panel and instructed to install it on the bottom of their plates, which when driven out of state helped publicize the celebration going on in Nevada.
