Issue: August 06, 2015

Hey everybody,

Here they are: the results of this year's Biggest Little Best of

Northern Nevada, the RN&R's annual readers' poll of the best

businesses, personalities and attractions around Reno, Sparks, Carson

City, Lake Tahoe and beyond. 5,176 readers placed 88,484 votes in 345

categories. So flip straight over to the results of the categories

you care most about to see if you or your friends or family won. But

be sure to read through all of the results. It really gives you an

appreciate of our neat, weird, hard-working little community.

And this week, more than any other week of the year, the online

edition has something special to offer: the first and second runners

up. Listen, we know as well as anybody that, in the context of a

readers' poll, "best" often translates to "most popular," and

furthermore "most popular" is usually just code for "most well

organized social media presence." Often, the people and businesses

who are actually the best are too busy being the best to mount a

carefully organized social media campaign, but on merits and honest

opinions, they're still able to take second or third place. The point

is that it's well worth reading through the second and third place

winners because there are names there that deserve your attention.

But there's more than just Best Of results in this week's issue. News

editor Dennis Myers examined Medicare as the federal insurance for

seniors hits its 50th birthday, just 15 years shy of being able to

qualify for itself, arts writer Jessica Santina surveyed Reno's

bopping jazz scene, and most importantly of all, special projects

editor Georgia Fisher visited Reno's first commercial medical

marijuana cultivation facility. Well, the first legal one, anyway.

Be sure to pick up a newsprint copy of the paper for exclusive

columns, cartoons and captain's hats.

Thanks for reading! If it weren't for you, we'd never know Northern

Nevada's Best Place to Have Sex in Public.
